Welcome to the MGPR Newsletter!

Hi, my dear subscriber! I'm so grateful you're here.

I've thrown around the idea of doing a newsletter for a long time and am excited to take the leap.

Admittedly, I feel a bit out of practice. But this will be good for me. And hopefully each of you.

Whether you've subscribed as a client, colleague or friend, I'm excited to build this newsletter with you along for the ride.

My goal is to share useful insights, tips and musings based on my experience as a PR professional, business owner and human being.

Any burning PR questions you have? Reply to this note. I'll personally respond and consider your ideas.

Now let's get to it!

On My Mind: PR, Identity and AI

I work with incredible individuals, from founders to technical experts and everything in between.

And each of them has their own goals, voice and perspective about their area of expertise.

It has always been my job to digest large amounts of information and feedback over time and use my skills as a writer to capture their essence and find creative and authentic ways to package the messages into information that connects with external audiences.

Now, AI can do the same thing. Well.... sort of.

Before AI went mainstream, at several points in my career, I worked with executives who wanted to completely hide from the world behind their PR team.

However, reporters and their audiences that we're trying to reach aren't interested in what a PR person thinks an expert thinks. Or the quote that five people edit that becomes so watered down that it has no meaning in the end. They want insights and perspectives directly from the expert source.

Yes, PR teams are able to help polish ideas, coach for direction and poke holes in narratives, but they can't BE you.

Now with AI, this has only been further exacerbated.

Because people think AI can be them. And in some ways, it probably will be someday. But outsourcing your voice, ideas or thoughts to AI is just a new evolution of the same problem.

Now, there are obvious tells. Reporters leverage tools to identify AI-generated content and we're seeing AI slop appear across all types of content. People are sick of it, and participating in content development like this can do way more harm than good.

So here are my tips...

Quick personal updates on the things I love most: animals, reading, travel, sports and more.

Fosters

We took a break from fostering in December and January due to the holidays and travel, but we're excited to welcome new friends into our home very, very soon!

Books

2026 Goal Progress: 3 / 60 books

Find me on StoryGraph and see my ratings and reviews, too!

First book of 2026

January book club

Just finished

Also, I just watched People We Meet on Vacation after devouring the Emily Henry novel several years ago. Soooo good!

I'm usually pretty good about separating novels from their TV or film adaptations, because they are just different mediums for storytelling and both interpretations have value. For what it's worth, I felt just as into the movie as I was the book.

Sports

After playing in recreational volleyball leagues for years, I finally won a championship and received the coveted shirt for doing so!

Hi everyone, There have been many wonderful changes happening at Megan Gasper PR. We are in the process of implementing a new brand identity and updating our website. I also recently gave a presentation on how to implement PR strategically and realistically for small-to mid-sized businesses. With everything going on, there will not be a full PR blog this month, especially with the website under construction. But no fear! I've got plenty to share. Cheers! Dear reader, February is the worst month of the year. Perhaps this is a hot take? January gets so much more hate because it has more days. But in my household, February always takes the cake. Even with this year's seasonably warm weather in Chicago for a few days there, and the fact that we celebrate my husband's birthday during the month. This year, though, it has also brought me a lot of new opportunities and kept me really busy. And I'm lucky enough to write this from my couch on a...
