April Brought Burnout, Website Updates & Weddings - MGPR Newsletter

Hi everyone,

I'm not going to lie. I'm pretty burnt out. I've been overextended over the last few months, and am working to make adjustments to better balance everything in my life, but most especially in my work.

Nothing says "dealing with things in the order they are received" like conceptualizing, writing and sending this newsletter all in the same day. It's not exactly how I planned it, but that's how it goes sometimes.

This is a mostly personal newsletter update this month. More PR stuff to come in the future.

Thanks for your patience and for being here through the ups and the downs.

Gratefully,

Founder & CEO

What's new with MGPR

Have you noticed our fun new logo and refreshed color palette? We've been working to make our brand more official, memorable and representative of what we do.

We haven't fully rolled it out yet, but you'll start seeing bits and pieces on social media ahead of the official launch (hopefully) coming in May.

We're grateful to Two Lips Creative for helping us with the brand and Brand Bloom for taking our website to the next level!

Can't wait to share it with you.

Quick personal updates on the things I love most: animals, reading, travel, sports and more.

Travel

I took my first days off of the year in April! Oops. Waiting that long definitely didn't help me with my burnout.

First, Brian and I enjoyed a do-nothing day. The rules? No work and no life maintenance. We did a staycation and explored Humboldt Park, having coffee at Tasa Coffee Roasters, lunch at Smash Jibarito and drinks at Suncatcher Brewing, a walk in the park and plenty of quiet time reading together.

Then, last week, we took a long weekend to travel to St. Simons Island in Georgia for a close friend's wedding! It was so fun seeing so many childhood friends, enjoying the sunshine and getting away for a bit.

We also celebrated another close friend's wedding earlier in the month locally. It was the most beautiful, unseasonably warm April day. No coats or time off necessary!

Fosters & Pets

As part of my burnout management, we didn't foster any cats in April and I only worked one volunteer shift. It helped that The Catcade was on spring break for a break of their own. But we're on the list to get new fosters as soon as this weekend and I'll be back in the lounge tomorrow!

Instead, our resident pets have been having some adventures.

Grover recently retired from agility, which is extremely bittersweet. We started originally to help him channel his energy and use his brain, but it started causing him more stress than joy.

Both pets enjoyed a week-long vacation while Brian and I were in Georgia. They love visiting Wisconsin!

2026 Goal Progress: 14 / 60 books

I read five books this month, especially during my travels. I love reading on a plane! Still behind pace to reach my goal, though.

Hi everyone, This edition of the MGPR Newsletter is in celebration of my second business anniversary! It's crazy to think that it's already been two years, and that it's only been two years. I've experimented, learned, succeeded and failed so much, and I'm excited for everything in the years to come. The most exciting part of making it to two years in business is that I finally, officially unveiled my new brand and website. Of course, in true business owner fashion, I still have so many...

Megan Gasper presenting at SketchPad Chicago

Hi everyone, There have been many wonderful changes happening at Megan Gasper PR. We are in the process of implementing a new brand identity and updating our website. I also recently gave a presentation on how to implement PR strategically and realistically for small-to mid-sized businesses. With everything going on, there will not be a full PR blog this month, especially with the website under construction. But no fear! I've got plenty to share. Cheers! Dear reader, February is the worst month of the year. Perhaps this is a hot take? January gets so much more hate because it has more days. But in my household, February always takes the cake. Even with this year's seasonably warm weather in Chicago for a few days there, and the fact that we celebrate my husband's birthday during the month. This year, though, it has also brought me a lot of new opportunities and kept me really busy. And I'm lucky enough to write this from my couch on a...
